Physician
It is necessary to engage or acquire the services of a healthcare professional to act as the AED liaison.
CPR/AED Training
An individual or organization obtaining an AED must ensure that their assigned AED users have up-to-date training in CPR and AED usage approved by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council.

Maintenance
The defibrillator must be maintained and tested in accordance with the manufacturer's operational guidelines, and written records of these activities must be kept. Additionally, an approved AED program approved by the designated AED liaison should be in place, covering CPR and AED training, AED protocols or guidelines, AED deployment strategies, and an AED equipment maintenance plan.
Notification of Use
The AED protocol or guidelines must specify that, in the event of someone experiencing cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia and receiving emergency care or treatment with an AED, the individual providing treatment must promptly activate the emergency medical services system or dial 911. Additionally, any clinical usage of the AED must be reported to the AED liaison.
