Physician
A licensed physician must oversee AED program compliance related to training, notification, and maintenance.
CPR/AED Training
AED/CPR training is recommended for expected users of the AED.
EMS Notification
Individuals or entities acquiring an AED must inform the appropriate emergency communications or vehicle dispatch center about the AED, including its location and type.
Maintenance
Those acquiring an AED must have written plans in place regarding AED placement, personnel training, coordination with EMS, medical oversight, maintenance, authorized personnel for AED use, and reporting of AED usage. These plans must be reviewed and approved by a licensed physician.
Notification of Use
Anyone providing emergency care using an AED on a person in sudden cardiac arrest should activate the EMS system immediately.
