How long will it take to get to an AED and return to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Victim?
Three minutes is the recommended time frame from the American Heart Association. Every minute counts! If you are not sure if your current AED Program follows these guidelines, we can help with completing a Site Assessment. These can be done on-site or by reviewing floor plans remotely.
During a Rescue
When a Sudden Cardiac Arrest occurs, bystanders must be able to:
- Identify that the victim is in Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- They must know the protocol for contacting emergency services
- There should be trained responders ready to save a life
- Perform CPR while someone else retrieves the AED (in under 3 minutes)
- Once the AED is present they will attach the electrodes to deliver the shock if needed
Storing Your AED
AEDs should be stored in a public area where they can be easily accessed. There are alarmed cabinets, cabinets with strobes, and cabinets that require a key to access the unit.
