Physician
Every AED provider must engage with an AED medical director, who is responsible for ensuring compliance with AED maintenance, AED provider training, and notification requirements.
CPR/AED Training
An AED provider is an individual who has completed a CPR and AED course meeting or exceeding the standards set by the American Heart Association or the American National Red Cross, with valid proof of completion.
EMS Notification
Before initiating a public access defibrillation program, the AED provider should inform the local police and emergency medical services provider about the quantity, type, and locations of AEDs in their possession.
Maintenance
The defibrillator must be maintained and tested in accordance with the manufacturer's operational guidelines.
Notification of Use
Each AED provider must, when responding to a request for emergency care, contact the police or emergency medical services in their city or town and submit a report to their AED medical director.
