Physician
It is necessary to obtain written authorization from a physician for the placement of the AED and to ensure compliance with the training, notification of placement/use, and maintenance requirements for the AED.
CPR/AED Training
Anticipated users of the defibrillator should undergo suitable training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or another nationally recognized program, or an equivalent nationally recognized course.
EMS Notification
The emergency medical services system must be engaged whenever an AED has been employed to provide emergency care or treatment.
Maintenance
An individual must conduct testing and maintenance on the AED or ensure that such activities are carried out in accordance with the AED manufacturer’s specifications.
Notification of Use
It is necessary to notify the physician of any emergency use of the AED.
