EMS Notification

Suppliers of AEDs must inform the local EMS agency about the obtained AED, including its location and type.

Maintenance

AEDs must be maintained and tested regularly following manufacturer, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross guidelines, as well as any relevant regulations. The AED should be checked after each use and at least once every 30 days if not used within that period, with documentation of these checks. A written emergency plan must outline procedures, including immediate 911 notification and informing trained personnel during AED use. Building owners should ensure tenants receive annual AED brochures and know the AED locations.

Notification of Use

Individuals using an AED during cardiac arrest must promptly activate EMS services and inform both the licensed physician and the local EMS agency about the AED usage.
