Louisiana State AED Law

Physician

A licensed physician or advanced practice registered nurse authorized to prescribe must be involved in the possessor's program to ensure compliance with training, EMS notification, and maintenance. Any clinical use of the AED must be reported to the overseeing physician or advanced practice registered nurse.

CPR/AED Training

Designated AED users at specific locations, such as workplaces, must receive CPR and AED training from either the American Heart Association or another nationally recognized CPR and AED training course.

EMS Notification

Individuals or entities possessing an AED must inform the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services in the Office of Public Health of the Department of Health and Hospitals and a local EMS provider, such as the 911 service, local ambulance service, or fire department, about the acquisition, location, and type of AED.

Maintenance

Those possessing an AED must ensure that the device is maintained and tested in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.

Notification of Use

The local emergency medical services system must be activated promptly when an individual provides emergency care using an AED on someone in cardiac arrest.
