Maine State AED Law
Physician
An individual who owns or leases an AED must seek guidance from a licensed physician for assistance in selecting the AED and its storage location, training potential operators, establishing protocols for use, and conducting use reviews.
CPR/AED Training
To use an AED on another individual, the operator must complete a course approved by the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or the department operating the AED.
EMS Notification
Owners or lessees of an AED must inform the Maine Emergency Medical Services within the department about the AED's presence, location, and type.
Maintenance
Owners or lessees of an AED must adhere to the manufacturer's standards and any additional standards set by the department for maintaining and testing the device.
Notification of Use
Owners or lessees of an AED must report to the Maine Emergency Medical Services within the department about any clinical use of the AED.
