Involvement of a licensed physician is required to ensure compliance.
CPR/AED Training
(a) Public building management officials should strive to recruit volunteers or, when appropriate, assign employees under the terms of relevant collective bargaining agreements and Labor Law provisions to operate automated external defibrillators as part of their official duties. It is recommended that there be at least two trained operators per AED or per floor in multi-floor buildings, whichever is greater, with workstations located near the AEDs to meet the response time outlined in section 303.3(b)(1). (b) Operators must undergo training in both CPR and AED use. AED operators must successfully complete CPR/AED training courses at intervals necessary to maintain certification.
EMS Notification
The provider of public access defibrillation must inform the regional council of the presence, location, and type of any automated external defibrillator in its possession.
Maintenance
The provider of public access defibrillation is responsible for ensuring that the automated external defibrillator is maintained and tested in accordance with the manufacturer's standards and relevant government regulations. Any use of an AED must be reported promptly to the emergency healthcare provider. Additional regulations apply to organizations implementing an AED program in New York City.
Notification of Use
Any use of an AED on a patient must be promptly reported to the relevant local emergency medical services system, emergency communications center, or emergency vehicle dispatch center as applicable, as well as promptly reported to the emergency healthcare provider.
