Medical oversight is required.
CPR/AED Training
Before using the AED, individuals authorized to operate it must receive department-approved training in CPR and AED usage.
EMS Notification
AED use must be coordinated with the local emergency medical service and relevant public safety agencies. A copy of the AED program plan and written notice of the AED program's establishment and coordination with local EMS must be provided to licensed EMS and emergency dispatch centers.
Maintenance
Entities using or allowing the use of an AED must establish a program with a written plan detailing AED placement, authorized operators, and maintenance and testing procedures in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines.
Notification of Use
Each time an AED is used, emergency medical services must be summoned, and the AED use must be reported to the department as outlined in the written plan.
