Physician
It is recommended to involve a licensed physician in the program at the site to ensure compliance with AED requirements for training, notification, maintenance, and usage guidelines.
CPR/AED Training
Individuals expected to use an automated external defibrillator should undergo training equivalent to CPR and AED training provided by entities such as the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or similar organizations.
EMS Notification
Individuals or entities obtaining a defibrillator through a prescription should inform an agent of the emergency communications system or emergency vehicle dispatch center about the defibrillator's existence, location, and type.
Maintenance
The defibrillator should be maintained and tested in accordance with the manufacturer's operational guidelines.
Notification of Use
Anyone providing emergency care or treatment to a person in sudden cardiac arrest using an AED must activate the EMS system promptly and report any clinical use of the defibrillator to the prescribing physician.
