Kentucky State AED Law
Physician
An individual or entity obtaining an AED must ensure medical supervision of the AED program by a Kentucky-licensed physician to meet requirements for training, maintenance, notification, and communication with local EMS. The overseeing physician is also responsible for establishing AED deployment protocols and reviewing each AED use.
CPR/AED Training
Individuals or entities acquiring an AED must ensure that designated AED users receive CPR and AED training from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or an equivalent nationally recognized training program.
EMS Notification
Anyone acquiring an AED must inform the local EMS agency and the emergency communications or dispatch center about the presence, location, and type of AED acquired.
Maintenance
Those acquiring an AED must maintain and test the device according to the manufacturer's operational guidelines.
Notification of Use
Individuals providing emergency care with an AED must activate the local EMS system promptly and, if part of an AED program, report any AED use to the overseeing physician.
